Council of Ministers discussed border revenues, tax reforms, and improving coordination with federal ministries
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today chaired a cabinet meeting to discuss tax reforms and incentives better aligned with federal standards.
Following a presentation by the Kurdistan Regional Government Cabinet Secretary, Amanj Raheem, the Council of Ministers reviewed and approved a number of proposals seeking to optimise border revenues, the Kurdistan Region’s tax system, and its blossoming agricultural sector.
These proposals also include measures to strengthen coordination with the corresponding federal ministries, within the framework of the Iraqi Constitution, to protect and support local businesses and producers.
The Council of Ministers also approved the Ministry of Finance and Economy and the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism’s debt relief plan for private citizens and business owners which will reduce debts owed, late fees, and penalties by 15%, valid for 90 business days from the date of issuance of the decree.
The Council agreed to expand the Minister of Finance and Economy’s powers to facilitate debt collection within the existing legal framework.
Lastly, the Minister of Natural Resources, Kamal Atroshi, outlined the Ministry’s kerosene distribution plan, working closely with the relevant provincial and municipal authorities to ensure supplies for the winter can reach citizens across the Kurdistan Region.
So far, around 67 million liters have been distributed, including in the mountain areas of Choman, Rwandiz, Soran, Mergasoor, and Shaqlawa towns.
