Council of Ministers discusses the purchase of wheat from farmers
The Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani chaired a Council of Ministers meeting in Erbil on Wednesday.
The first priority was to discuss the visit of a Council of Ministers team to Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani. The Prime Minister thanked the team for their efforts, stressing that the Deputy Prime Minister and PUK team have been asked to return to meetings of the Council of Ministers in order to discuss any problems and serve the public interest.
In the second part of the meeting, Kamal Muslim, Minister of Trade and Industry gave an update on the purchase of wheat by the Iraqi Ministry of Trade. The Minister outlined the results of his last visit to Baghdad and ongoing negotiations with the federal government. The Prime Minister instructed the relevant ministries to take necessary steps with the federal government to ensure wheat is purchased from farmers of the Kurdistan Region.
In the third part, a bill titled 'Implementation and Amendment of the Iraqi Security Regulation Law No.10 of 2005 in the Kurdistan Region' was presented by Vala Fareed, Minister of State for Parliament Affairs. Following discussions and the exchange of various comments and suggestions, the Council of Ministers approved the bill.
Interior Minister Rebar Ahmad then presented a report on the steps which have been taken to control shooting incidents in Erbil and arrest offenders. The Prime Minister stressed that the institutions of the Kurdistan Regional Government should take all necessary measures to ensure the security and protection of citizens and end the use of illegal weapons. He called on the media not to become a platform for spreading violence and intimidation, and to play a role in maintaining social order.
At the end of the meeting, Saman Barzanji, Minister of Health, briefed Ministers on the spread of meningitis among children in Halabja province and gave assurances that investigations have been conducted, necessary steps have been taken, and that the situation is under control with patients receiving the necessary treatments.
