More than 2 million square meters of mined land were cleared last year

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) – The ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Region Government (KRG) has paid great attention to the clearance of mined land within the framework of the mine action Agency. According to The Mine Action Agency’s data, 2 million 316 thousand 756 square meters of land was cleared of mines and IEDs in the Kurdistan Region last year.

47 fields have been cleared of landmines
The total area cleared by the The Mine Action Agency was 736,195 square meters and the organizations cleared 1,580,561 square meters of landmines, a total of 2 million 316 thousand 756 square meters .The number of minefields cleared by the agency is 27 and 20 by the organizations, bringing the total to 47.

4 thousand 236 anti-personnel mines were destroyed
1944 mines were destroyed by the Mine Agency and 2,2292 mines were destroyed by the organizations, bringing the total to 4,236 anti-personnel mines.


195,000 mine awareness have been published
195 posters, guide booklets, information and contact cards, illustrated stories, school notebooks, magazines and other awareness materials were distributed.

31 citizens have been killed and injured by mine accidents
Injures number in the Kurdistan Region in 2022 by mine accidents: 7 in Erbil, 7 in Sulaimani, 4 in Duhok and 6 in Garmian. The total number of injured in the Kurdistan Region in 2022 by mine accidents was 24 people. The deaths number in the Kurdistan Region in 2022 by mine accidents was, 1 in Erbil, 3 in Sulaimani, 1 in Duhok, 2 in Garmian and a total of 7 people.
