UAE Ready to Expand Energy Ties with Kurdistan Region

On Monday, 28 July 2025, Kamal Mohammad Salih, Minister of Electricity and Acting Minister of Natural Resources for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), received Sheikha Bashir Farhan, Chargé d’Affaires at the Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Kurdistan Region.

Ms Farhan reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to strengthening strategic relations and partnerships with the Kurdistan Region. She commended the 24-hour electricity initiative “Runaki”, describing it as a significant milestone in improving public services and promoting economic development.

She also conveyed the UAE’s readiness to deepen economic cooperation with the Kurdistan Region, particularly through investments in the energy sector, including oil and gas. In this regard, efforts are ongoing to expand the implementation of new energy initiatives, with a particular emphasis on solar power generation.
