KRG credits over $1 million to 60,000 families in the 24-hour Runaki initiative

Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) — The Ministry of Electricity announced today that more than 60,000 households across the Kurdistan Region will receive a total credit of over $1 million, or approximately 1.4 billion Iraqi dinars, as part of the KRG’s 24-hour Runaki initiative.
The credit follows the introduction of new progressive tariffs and discounts, approved unanimously by the KRG Council of Ministers on 14 May.
On average, each household will receive a credit of 20,000 dinars on their May bill, with some eligible for up to 80,000 dinars.
Today’s credit includes:
1. The difference between the new, lower tariffs and the pilot tariffs.
2. A 15% discount for neighborhoods on Runaki for three months.
Under the new Runaki tariffs, nearly 80% of households are expected to pay less than previously paid for national electricity and private generators combined.
The KRG has allocated up to $200 million to support the Runaki initiative through subsidies, discounts and energy-saving measures.
