KRG Expands Runaki Project as Electricity Sector Reforms Move Forward

On Tuesday, 3 June 2025, Kamal Mohammed Salih, Minister of Electricity for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), chaired a meeting of the Ministry of Electricity’s Council. The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including director generals from the Ministry’s central departments, the electricity directorates of Slemani, Erbil, Duhok and Halabja, as well as the mayors of Rapareen, Zakho, Garmyan and Soran.

Minister Salih praised the Ministry’s staff for their continued dedication and efficient work in delivering 24-hour electricity to a large portion of the population through the Runaki (“Light”) Project. He highlighted the project as a significant step in the government’s ongoing efforts to reform and modernise the electricity sector across the Kurdistan Region.
