Project Runaki reaches over 1 million citizens in the Kurdistan Region

Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) – The Ministry of Electricity has announced today the continued expansion of the Runaki Project.

As of today’s rollout, more than one million citizens now benefit from the KRG’s national 24-hour power initiative, or over 15% of the public.

The breakdown per province:

- Erbil: 860,000
- Slemani: 132,000
- Duhok: 114,000
- Total: 1.1 million citizens

Today, 283,000 subscribers across the Kurdistan Region have access to 24-hour electricity.

In recent months, dozens of neighborhoods across Erbil, Slemani, and Duhok have joined the Runaki initiative, bringing cheaper, clean and uninterrupted power to thousands of families and business. With today’s expansion, around 60,000 businesses currently receive 24-hour power.

Nearly 1,300 neighborhood diesel generators have been turned off — the equivalent to removing about 225,000 vehicles off the road.

The KRG expects to move all major city centers, including Halabja, to 24-hour power by the end of 2025.

The Runaki initiative is part of a national effort to provide 24-hour electricity to every home and business by the end of 2026.
