KRG and U.S. Consulate Launch English Course for Students in Erbil

On Monday, 17 February, 2025, the AMIDEAST Organization, with support from the U.S. Consulate in the Kurdistan Region and in coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs (MERA), launched a year-long English language course for secondary school students at Shahid Mullah Abdullah Palpitani School.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by U.S. Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, Steve Bitner, along with MERA officials. Tayeb Zirar Sherwani, MERA’s Director in Erbil, delivered a speech highlighting the program’s significance and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to ensuring its success.
Consul General Bitner also underscored the importance of the initiative and reiterated the U.S. Consulate’s continued support for educational programmes in the region.
