Kurdistan Region President and KRG Minister of Endowment and Religious Affairs Host Sheikh Madah Sheikh Osman Naqshbandi

On Wednesday, 19 March 2025, Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, along with Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Endowment and Religious Affairs, Pshtiwan Sadq, and the Governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, received Sheikh Madah Sheikh Osman Naqshbandi of Biara, the Custodian of the Schools and Monasteries of Sheikh Osman Sirajuddin of Biara in Kurdistan and around the world. He was accompanied by a delegation.

During the meeting, President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed Sheikh Naqshbandi’s decision to return to Kurdistan and wished him success. He highlighted the vital role of religious scholars in fostering a culture of moderation and non-violence, emphasising that this message is both essential and a valuable service to society. He also reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s support and its institutions’ commitment to promoting a moderate and peaceful discourse.

Both sides underscored the importance of fostering coexistence, mutual acceptance, and tolerance among the Kurdistan Region’s diverse ethnic and religious communities. They also emphasised the crucial role of religious scholars in promoting a message of moderation and affirmed that combating extremism and violence is both necessary and beneficial for society.
