Kurdistan Public Prosecutor Reports Over 1,000 Cases of Rights and Property Violations in 2024

The Presidency of the Public Prosecutor in the Kurdistan Region has released its 2024 report detailing legal actions against 1,074 cases of the mishandling of public rights, misappropriation of public property, and illegal construction removals. Additionally, 3,907 investigation proceedings were issued to various institutions. Members of the Public Prosecutor's Office also participated in 2,031 investigation and disciplinary committees.

During the same period, the Crimes Commission, Juvenile Crimes Commission, Legal Oversight Appeal Commission, and Advisory Commission for the Public Prosecutor's Presidency filed 1,275 criminal cases, successfully resolving over 1,000 of them, representing an 80% resolution rate. 

Public Prosecutors were present in the Criminal Court, Juvenile Court, Misdemeanour Court, Court of Appeal, and Customs Court, where they reviewed and audited case files daily and appealed court decisions when necessary.

Members of the Public Prosecution conducted 1,211 visits to police and security stations, as well as centres for combating domestic violence, to monitor investigation processes and ensure legal procedures were followed correctly. 

Additionally, they visited correctional facilities across the Kurdistan Region, including the governorates and the Garmian and Raparin administrations, to assess detainee and convict conditions and to listen to their requests and grievances.G
