Over 80,000 Land Plots Registered with Legal Title Deeds in the Kurdistan Region

The General Directorate of Land Registry in the Kurdistan Region has successfully converted more than 80,000 land plots from preliminary registration (land cards) into official ownership through legal title deeds.

Previously, landholders possessed only land cards as proof of ownership. Under the new system, these plots have now been formally registered in the names of their rightful owners, granting them full legal ownership.

According to the Directorate, between 21 October 2021 and mid-2025, over 80,000 plots that were previously documented only through nominal registration have now been transformed into official title deeds.

The land card conversion process in Erbil is nearly complete, with approximately 14,000 cards remaining due to ongoing technical issues. Once resolved, the relevant departments will proceed with final registration and issuance of ownership documents. The concluding phase will focus on finalising the remaining registrations.
