KRG High Representative meeting with the FCDO Minister of State for Middle East & North Africa
London, United Kingdom (uk.gov.krd), Better bilateral relations were discussed when Karwan Jamal Tahir, the KRG High Representative to the UK visited the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office where he was received by James Cleverly, Minister
of State for the Middle East & North Africa.
Mr Karwan conveyed his government’s gratitude and appreciation for the UK government’s continued support, and briefed Minister Cleverly on the latest political, economic and cultural situation in Federal Iraq including the Kurdistan Region, and the wider region. He stressed the importance of maintaining strong ties between the UK and the Kurdistan Region and more involvement in advancing commercial, cultural and political engagements adding that “ there are immense investment opportunities in the Kurdistan Region for UK companies”.
The High Representative emphasised the Kurdistan Regional Government’s
full support for the federal government of Iraq in protecting the security and stability of the country, especially after recent attacks on the diplomatic missions in Iraq, which both sides strongly condemned.
Minister Cleverly expressed the UK’s willingness to assist in further developing bilateral ties with the Kurdistan Region and stated that “we must deliver this goal and build on our strong partnership with the Kurdistan Regional Government and the UK supports a strong and successful Kurdistan Region within a thriving Iraq.”
