Department of Foreign Relations Condemns the Terrorist Attack on the Khor Mor Gas Field

The Department of Foreign Relations of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) strongly condemns the terrorist attack carried out on the night of 26 November 2025 against the Khor Mor gas field. This attack deliberately targeted vital economic infrastructure, essential public services in the Kurdistan Region, and international investment, and constitutes a direct threat to regional security and stability.

As a result of this attack, electricity supplies to millions of citizens have been disrupted. Similar terrorist attacks targeting energy infrastructure in the Kurdistan Region have occurred previously. Despite the identification of those responsible for earlier incidents, the necessary measures to hold perpetrators accountable have not been taken.

The attack led to a complete shutdown of the Khor Mor gas field and a significant reduction in electricity production, with immediate and direct consequences for the daily lives of citizens in the Kurdistan Region and parts of Iraq. Such an unjustifiable act of violence against civilians, economic infrastructure, and public services represents an assault on stability across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq as a whole.

The Kurdistan Regional Government calls on the relevant federal authorities to conduct a serious and transparent investigation into this terrorist attack and to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice, in order to prevent the recurrence of such acts.

The Department of Foreign Relations also calls for international support to assist the Kurdistan Region in strengthening its air defence capabilities, with the aim of protecting regional security and stability. Safeguarding the Kurdistan Region’s security is an integral part of protecting international investments, energy security, and broader collective interests.

Furthermore, the Department urges the international community to clearly and unequivocally condemn these terrorist acts, which undermine stability and development. We call on international partners to reaffirm their support for the protection of the Kurdistan Region’s energy security and economic infrastructure, and to use diplomatic channels to encourage the federal government to take concrete and decisive steps to prevent such crimes from being committed against the Kurdistan Region under any pretext.

The Kurdistan Region reaffirms its commitment to the promotion of security, stability, peaceful coexistence, and the continued fight against violence and terrorism.
