UAE Delegation Visits Kurdistan Region’s Department of Information Technology to Advance Cooperation on Digital Government
Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) - The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Department of Information Technology (DIT) received a high-level delegation from the United Arab Emirates as part of ongoing cooperation in governance, innovation, and digital transformation.
The delegation was led by H.E. Eng. Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, Director General of the UAE Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), and Amer Al Awadhi, Director of Special Projects at the Dubai Future Foundation. They met with Hiwa Afandi, Deputy Minister and Head of DIT, and DIT team leaders.
Discussions focused on DIT’s infrastructure resilience and the delivery of secure, reliable, and continuous digital public services. DIT presented KRDPass, the single sign-on application that enables citizens to access government services using a digital ID. The UAE delegation shared insights from UAE PASS, the national digital identity platform, offering perspectives that complemented DIT’s experience with KRDPass and informing potential future enhancements to citizen services.
“Today’s engagement with our counterparts from the UAE reflects our shared ambition to deliver secure, user-centric digital public services at scale,” said Hiwa Afandi, Deputy Minister and Head of DIT. “We look forward to continued collaboration on standards, digital identity, and resilient infrastructure to better serve citizens across the Kurdistan Region.”
The delegation toured DIT facilities, including the Government’s Central Data Center, to gain a detailed view of the department’s digital infrastructure and operations. Both sides affirmed their commitment to sustained knowledge exchange and technical collaboration to strengthen digital government services in the Kurdistan Region and the United Arab Emirates.
