Statement by the Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - At 9:30 P.M. last night, February 15, 2021, several rockets struck the Erbil International Airport and several neighborhoods in Erbil.

The attack on the airport resulted in the killing of one person and injured five others. Three other victims were injured in the city of Erbil, in addition to the material damage to several houses and businesses caused by the attack.

Counterterrorism, security, and police units immediately launched an investigation, in coordination with coalition forces, and located the vehicle from which the rockets were fired. The vehicle was a Kia and was located between Erbil and Gwer.

Last night’s attack employed the same method and technique used in a previous assault on the Erbil airport. Ongoing investigations will definitively confirm who are the culprits behind the attack, and we assure the people of Erbil and the Kurdistan Region that all those involved will be held accountable and brought to justice.
