KRG Ministry of Interior Chairs Meeting on CCHF and Drought Response

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Rebar Ahmed, Minister of Interior, chaired a meeting at the Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). The meeting was attended by Saman Barznji, Minister of Health; Begard Talabani, Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources; Abdulhakeem Khasro, Head of the Board of Coordination and Follow Up; Abdulrahman Sidiq, Chairman of the Environmental Protection and Improvement Board; and Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman, Senior Adviser to Prime Minister Barzani on Climate Change Affairs. Also in attendance were the governors of Erbil, Slemani, Duhok and Halabja, the mayors of Rapareen, Zakho, Soran, Garmyan, representatives of relevant ministries, and members of the Operations Room for Crisis and Disaster Management.

The meeting focused on two key issues: first, strategies to prevent and respond to Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF); and second, preparations and mitigation efforts concerning the ongoing drought. Discussions addressed the status of CCHF in the Kurdistan Region, preventive measures to contain the spread of the disease, and the projected impacts of drought, including associated risks and response strategies.

Minister Ahmed commended the efforts of the Ministries of Agriculture and Health, the Ministry of Interior’s Operations Room, and the regional governors and mayors for their ongoing work in monitoring the situation and implementing preventive and responsive measures.
