KRG Ministry of Interior Statement on Acts of Unrest Along the Gwer–Erbil Road

For some time now, various external parties, with the encouragement of certain local individuals and internal parties, have been attempting to create unrest. The latest disruptive attempt began with the targeting of the Khor Mor gas field, an act intended to halt electricity generation in the Region.

In response, the Kurdistan Regional Government used liquid fuel as a substitute for gas to ensure the continued supply of electricity. Amid internal and external incitement, a group of instigators of unrest in the Gwer area then blocked the road used by fuel tankers, and fired upon drivers travelling along the route.

As a result of the shooting, one citizen lost their life and several others were injured.

We will no longer allow anyone to exploit the tolerance of the Kurdistan Region’s institutions, and a clear limit will be imposed on such disruptive acts. To prevent this type of disturbance, all instigators of unrest will be dealt with in accordance with the laws in force in the Kurdistan Region, and no one is above the law.
