KRG Coordinator of International Advocacy: We will participate in the review of Iraq’s compliance to the Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights in Geneva as part of the Federal Republic of Iraq.
The fifth report of the Iraqi Republic on the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights is scheduled to be discussed at the UN headquarters in Geneva on (19-20/2/2024). A delegation of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) led by the Minister of Justice Dr. Khalid Shuani, chairman of the committee on international agreements and treaties in the federal government, will participate in the talks.
In this regard, Dr. Dinar Zebari, Coordinator of International Recommendations in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), said in a statement that the participation of the KRG delegation in coordination with the committee to write reports on human rights agreements and treaties in the federal government, it is intended to highlight the Kurdistan Region's commitments to these agreements.
Dr. Dindar Zebari KRG Coordinator as representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government will give his speech in which he will highlight the laws, guidelines, and practical steps that are being implemented in the Kurdistan Region.
The Coordinator of International Advocacy said that the participation of the Kurdistan Regional Government in these meetings is a platform to conveying its commitment along with Federal authorities to the principles and recommendations to the international community at the (UN) headquarters, including Geneva. The meetings will also focus on the latest steps taken by the Kurdistan Regional Government to implement the KRG Human Rights Action Plan (2021–2025), which includes the thirteenth section on economic, social, and cultural rights.
The 75th session of the UN Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights will be held from February 12 to March 1 in Geneva.
