Italy Reinforces Support for KRG’s Human Rights Initiatives

On Tuesday, 8 April 2025, Dindar Zebari, Coordinator for the Office of International Advocacy of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), welcomed Tommaso Sansone, the newly appointed Consul General of the Republic of Italy in the Kurdistan Region.
Their meeting focused on the KRG's sustained progress in the field of human rights and its commitment to implementing international recommendations.
Both parties highlighted the measures taken to promote freedom of expression, equality, and justice.
They also emphasised the importance of strengthening coordination between Italy and the KRG, particularly in addressing existing gaps and identifying areas in need of increased international support.
While acknowledging the notable progress achieved, both sides recognised that many sectors still require international participation, expertise, and experience.
Consul General Sansone reaffirmed Italy's support for the KRG's human rights initiatives and affirmed Italy’s commitment to working closely with the region to overcome its challenges. He underscored the importance of international cooperation in advancing efforts to uphold human rights in the Kurdistan Region.
