KRG Reaffirms Commitment to International Cooperation in Counter-Terrorism

On Wednesday, 4 August 2025, Dindar Zebari, Coordinator of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Office of International Advocacy (OCIA), received a delegation from the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), led by Zeeshan Amin, Director of the UNOCT Office in Baghdad. The delegation included Agnes Venema, Director of Programme Coordination, and Mustafa Mohsin, Programme Management Officer.
Zebari reaffirmed the KRG’s commitment to combating terrorism and emphasised the Region’s key role in promoting regional stability through ongoing cooperation with international partners, particularly in support of the Peshmerga and post-conflict recovery efforts.
He underscored the need for meaningful reform, particularly the development of mechanisms to enable the voluntary return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their areas of origin. He also highlighted the importance of addressing ongoing challenges in return areas to ensure long-term stability.
Both sides explored opportunities to enhance coordination in cybersecurity, border management, and the disruption of financial networks that sustain terrorist organisations.
