Japanese Consul General: KRG's Commitment to Recommendations is a Positive Step for Transparency and Good Governance

ERBIL — On Monday, June 23, 2025, Dr. Dindar Zebari, the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Coordinator for International Recommendations, hosted Mr. Hitoshi Ishizuka, the Consul General of Japan in the Kurdistan Region. The meeting focused on exploring mechanisms to leverage Japan's expertise and strengthen its support for the region.
During the discussions, Dr. Zebari commended Japan's pivotal role in supporting the Kurdistan Region's strategic projects across key sectors, including energy, water, health, and agriculture. He also highlighted the substantive measures taken by the KRG under its Human Rights Action Plan, which have garnered international acclaim. Nevertheless, Dr. Zebari emphasized the ongoing need for enhanced international assistance, particularly in the crucial area of human capacity building.
For his part, the Japanese Consul General characterized the Kurdistan Region's adherence to international recommendations as a constructive stride towards establishing good governance and ensuring transparency. He pledged to convey a comprehensive overview of the region's governance system to his Japanese counterparts and affirmed his commitment to sustaining and further developing the bilateral cooperation between both sides in the future.
