KRG to Participate in 99th CRC Session in Geneva

A delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will participate as part of the delegation of Iraq at the 99th session of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC), to be held at the UN headquarters in Geneva from 13 to 18 May 2025. The delegation will contribute to discussions on comments and recommendations concerning Iraq’s obligations under international agreements ratified within the federal framework, ensuring that the Kurdistan Region’s specific commitments are accurately represented.

Dindar Zebari, KRG Coordinator for International Advocacy, emphasized that the session
provides an important opportunity to present the Kurdistan Region’s recent efforts in promoting and protecting human rights, particularly those of children. Discussions are expected to focus on the implementation of the KRG’s Human Rights Plan (2021-2025), with particular attention to the section dedicated to children’s rights.

During the session, Zebari will deliver a speech outlining the laws, policies, and practical measures undertaken by the KRG to advance children's rights in the Region. The review will also include Iraq’s fifth and sixth periodic reports on the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), submitted to the Committee as part of its reporting obligations.
